Society and health
In this research area, we investigate how products and humans interact in the complex contemporary food system as well as for use of pharmaceutical products. The key issues are both to understand how culture and society affect the choices we make and the safe handling of products. The research is cross-disciplinary between technology, social sciences and health.
Areas of research include how culture and economy interact in modern society and how new habits, values, and beliefs that emerge from these processes shape our attitude for example towards different food products and introduction of novel foods. This research has a strong international dimension as we investigate different eating habits, the utilization of native foods and their impact on health across various regions of the world. We also conduct research into the handling of pharmaceuticals by patients and hospital staff and how this can affect the safety and stability of pharmaceutical products. The area also includes research on how to advance food systems science and education within pharmaceuticals and food.
