Advanced process engineering

Advanced process engineering for resource-efficient production. When producing products, we want to optimize the use of resources such as raw materials, energy, equipment for the desired product quality and production speed.

This is a complex task and one way is to use model-based computational techniques. Advanced process engineering involves first developing a reliable mathematical model of the process, which is then used to test different production methods, using computers, to determine the best way.

In particular, the research team is looking at downstream processes for biopharmaceuticals, to develop production methods that robustly fulfil purification requirements while finding optimal operating conditions. Ongoing research is focused on integrated continuous downstream processes, their support systems and automation and control systems. Mainly studied is the production of peptides for diabetes, antibodies for cancer, vaccines, and drugs for gene therapy.
